The 2019 Google Core Update should now be completely rolled out and it was shown to be weaker than the last update, the one that came in June. Data is now available from numerous SEO tool providers, Google and the community.
A core Google update practically means that the search engine algorithm’s core is adjusted so that more useful and relevant search results are delivered. This is done around once per quarter, with Google officially confirming them. This is a part of the company’s main processes, like speeding up Search Engine console to deliver better performance.
As with every single update that Google launches, search engine results do change. Some lead to sites ranking higher for main keywords while others end up with position drops. It is also possible that no ranking changes appear. In the past year Google made over 3,000 changes but the core algorithm just happens a few times per year.
What Happened After The September 2019 Google Core Update?
The very first thing that was noticed is that the Finance and Health industries took most of the hits. We are now looking at high volatility going on at the positions between 1 and 3. Also, at a global perspective, there were also some clear changes that happened for travel, media and medical domains. There is not enough data at the moment to highlight some of the niches that were negatively affected.
Large volatility was also seen in Sports and News. However, these are categories that do show significant changes all throughout the day. It was highlighted that sites like DailyMail and eBackPage.com had good increases while sites like Monks.org ended up with loses.
If we take a look at the polls that were done by SEO specialists, around 50% say there were no traffic changes caused by the 2019 Google Core update. Around 25% showed increases and 25% showed decreases. This is a much lower impact than what we saw from the 2019 Google Core update.
What Does The Core Update Mean For You?
If we take a look at the statistics that were released until now, it is obvious that most websites were not negatively or positively affected. This is especially the case for those that resected the 2019 SEO trends. However, the industries that were highlighted above were impacted and most changes were noticed there.
A particular note of interest is that it seems Google is trying to take down the fake news sites from prominent search engine rankings. This is due to the fact that numerous websites in the entertainment and gossip niches showed some traffic drops. A similar thing was not noticed in the most popular news sites, with Daily Mail showing increases.
At the end of the day, just as with all Google updates that have an impact on search engine rankings, there are winners and there are losers. However, those that rely on a proper white hat SEO strategy that is built around quality content and promotion are not negatively affected.
